Taking your fitness on the road!
Going on a trip? Scared to abandon your structured workout regimine? Staying committed to a fitness program is tough enough, now throw in business travel, family trip or anything out of the norm and it becomes exponentially harder. Here are some ideas to help you stay fit while you’re away from home:

* Plan Ahead

When you are booking your hotel, take the exercise/spa facilities into consideration. What do they have available? Check out the online pictures or virtual tours of the hotel and it’s fitness facility so that you know what they have in advance. If they don’t have a facility, they may have an affiliation with a local gym.

Also, plan your trip schedule in advance. Doing this will help you to block off specific time that you can fit your workout in. Have an early morning meeting? Make it a lunch time jog.

* Explore

If you are a runner or walker, ask the concierge at the hotel if there are any local parks, tracks or other well lit and parked placed to go.

* No Gym? No problem!

Packing a jump rope and resistance bands is always a great idea. These are both lightweight pieces of equipment that take up almost no room. There are also many exercises that you can do right in your hotel room. Push-ups, crunches, squats, calf raises, etc. If the weather is inclimate or the days events left you with little energy, try just going for a walk through the hotel or local mall.

* Breakfast may be free… but it’s loaded with calories!
Do yourself a favor and skip the all-you-can-eat breakfast and the conference room doughnuts. A great rule of thumb is to pre-pack and bring food and snacks with you. Protein bars, protein powder and oatmeal are great things to bring and easy to pack. If all are unavailable, get a cup of coffee, piece of fruit, bowl of oatmeal, Just don’t get your money’s worth out of the hotel’s free breakfast. And that being said…Snacks don’t make Happy Hour. Be sure that you don’t mindlessly snack while socializing and mingling on your trip.
